A release-readiness QA pass over the whole product. The commits split into
defects a user would hit and gates that were reporting green while measuring
nothing.
## Fixes that change behaviour
Rate limiting was bypassable on every install: TRUST_PROXY defaulted to true, so
request.ip came from a client-set header and a forged X-Forwarded-For got past
the login limiter. The default is now a private-network trust list.
A transient Postgres outage stranded in-flight jobs, leaving finished output on
disk with no row pointing at it. A reconciler now resolves those rows and adopts
the bytes rather than dropping the work.
A Redis connection that moved to a new address wedged every read-blocked
consumer, so completions stopped signalling while health still answered 200.
Socket timeouts plus subscriber pings recover it.
Installing more than one AI bundle left the shared venv multi-versioned and
silently broke three tools. The installer now reconciles distributions to one
version each.
Converting an image to JXL at quality 1 through 4 returned a 500, because
libjxl 0.7 rejects the distance those values compute. The quality is floored at
what the encoder honours. A missing ffmpeg was also reported to the user as a
corrupt upload; it now says the engine is unavailable.
RAW uploads reached an unpatched LibRaw on arm64, so it is built from source at
0.22.2, and the release scan was split so it can fail on an unfixed critical
instead of hiding it behind ignore-unfixed.
## Gates that could not fail
Two mutation lanes ran zero mutants because Stryker crawled the gitignored docs
build; coverage discarded its whole report on any failing test; the lint gate
skipped root tests, scripts, and two workspaces; and several generated matrices
counted a host missing ffmpeg as a passing tool. Each now measures what it
claims.
Full evidence and the outstanding release items are tracked locally and are not
part of this branch.
Adds /api/status to the landing Pages worker, HEAD-probing demo.snapotter.com and
docs.snapotter.com with a 2 second per-attempt deadline and one retry. snapotter.com is
not probed; the worker answering the request is the proof it is up.
The footer badge ships grey in the static HTML and only upgrades once the route answers.
A rejected fetch, a non-ok response, an unparseable body, and an unrecognized verdict all
leave it grey, so it never claims green on its own.
Color lives in the dot, never the label: `--color-success` scores 4.498:1 against the
footer's `--color-background-alt`, just under AA.
Four labels across 21 locales.
Adds a Rounded Crop image tool for logo, favicon, and app-icon work. It masks the framed square to a rounded rectangle (with a corner-radius control) or an iOS-style squircle, reusing circle-crop's zoom/offset framing, border ring, background fill, and output-size options. Includes translations across all 21 locales.
Closes#601
Removes the temporary 2.0 launch banner and README note, and refreshes the social/OG card to the current landing hero (synced to landing/web/docs og-image.png).
Resyncs the generated _redirects with the tool catalog; it drifted when remove-gif-background was added without rerunning scripts/generate-redirects.mjs. Landing-only PR, admin-merged past the path-skipped required checks.
Switch the footer LiftOff badge image to lift-off.sh's hosted webp so their launch-verification step passes. Removes the unused self-hosted copy; the do-follow link is unchanged.
Regenerate the social/OG card (200+ tools, Private file processing, self-hosted infrastructure) and sync to landing/web/docs; update banner, press kit, package + OpenAPI + Docker Hub descriptions, a leaked docs count, and the English About string.
Leads public copy with self-hosted file-processing infrastructure and demotes tool count to a proof point across README, docs, llms.txt, DockerHub, and the landing site. Adds a /self-hosted hub plus 7 job-intent SEO pages with a build-time validator, deepens the flagship /alternatives pages, adds a remove.bg page, three shared components, and landing e2e coverage.
* docs: add 1.x-to-2.0 migration guide and upgrade notice
Adds MIGRATING.md with backup and upgrade steps, plus a short
"coming from 1.x?" callout in README and the docs upgrade guide
pointing existing users at it.
* fix: replace stale image-only and pre-rename data copy across product
SnapOtter grew from an image-only tool into a 5-modality suite
(Image, Video, Audio, PDF, Files), but copy in several places never
caught up. Fixes:
- dropzone.defaultFormats (i18n): every non-English locale still had
the pure pre-2.0 image-only format list; English omitted Files
entirely. Corrected across all 21 locales.
- settings.about.appDescription (i18n): "document, and data" workflow
copy updated to "PDF, and file" across all 21 locales.
- constants.ts: Files category's raw name was still "Data Files".
- Landing hero subtitle, JSON-LD schema, llms.txt, and 7 spots in the
competitor-comparison pages.
- Docs: VitePress config, supported-formats, deployment, and an
architecture.md modality-naming nit.
- OpenAPI description, root package.json description/keyword, and a
GitHub issue template dropdown option.
DOCKERHUB.md's separate "v1.x, image tools only" pre-release notice
is left untouched since 2.0 hasn't published to Docker Hub yet.
* test: update dropzone format-hint assertion to match corrected copy
The expected string still had the stale image-only/duplicated
PDF-Documents text from before the dropzone.defaultFormats fix.
README:
- Add a one-command Quick Start above Key Features (single docker run) to show how fast setup is; rename the detailed section to Deployment and drop the duplicated one-liner.
- List TinyWow among the alternatives.
- Tighten the sponsor call to action.
Branding:
- Replace the social card's GDPR/HIPAA badges with Self-hosted, Privacy-sensitive, Compliance-friendly, Air-gap capable, Open source, matching the landing Hero.
- Regenerate branding/social-preview.png and the synced landing/web OG images (counts refreshed to the live catalog).
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01JQ8LmV8LPLi8yNTayHzSTQ
A self-hosted animated warm gradient now sits behind the hero: a captured
WebGL mesh loop (webm + mp4 + webp poster, no framework or Three.js) in a
top band that fades to cream before the tool search. The headline goes
white, badges become dark glass, and the navbar is more opaque so nav,
badges, headline, and subtitle all stay legible over the gradient.
Reduced-motion and small screens fall back to the still poster.
Also carries the hero copy already present in the working tree (new
headline, badge labels, and subtitle), which is entangled with these edits.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01MbQGV1k1mneFidgGyDnmDQ
Draw, type, or upload a signature and place resizable/rotatable copies across PDF pages; output flattened server-side with PyMuPDF. Visual electronic signature, not cryptographic. New interactive-sign display mode (pdf.js + Konva) and a custom docs-pool route.
Root llms.txt was still 1.x: 157 tools, old per-modality counts, single-container 'docker run' quick-start, 14 permissions. Rewrote it from the live catalog to 200+ tools with accurate per-section listings (image/video/audio/PDF/files = 240), a Docker Compose quick-start, and the current stack. Landing public/llms.txt: removed the '(N tools)' counts from the 5 section headers (drift-proof) and renamed 'Data & File Tools' to 'File Tools'.
* fix(landing): correct PDF tool count to 28 in alternatives copy
The pdf section has 28 tools (section.test.ts asserts bySection('pdf')=28). PR #363 corrected the docs breakdown but the alternatives pages still said 40 PDF tools (the document-modality count, not the pdf section) with 200 for the rest. Update to 28 PDF tools and 212 for the non-PDF remainder.
* chore: use "200+ tools" for the tool-count claim across public surfaces
Replaces the exact '240 tools' count (which drifts as tools are added) with the stable '200+ tools' on README, the Docker Hub overview, landing pages, the docs site (meta, homepage, search), the API self-description, the demo OG tag, llms.txt, package.json, the branding readme, and the en/nl app strings. Per-modality breakdown tables stay exact. Leaves the architecture doc's technical 'tool routes' figure, an internal vitest comment, and a QA report line unchanged. Updates the two tests that assert the docs strings.
The dashboard GIF and social/OG card still showed 157 tools with the old
per-section counts. Regenerated both at the current catalog (240: image 105,
video 57, audio 27, pdf 28, files 23).
Also fixed the root cause in generate-social-preview.mjs: it hardcoded the
card counts, so they drift every time tools are added. It now derives them
live from TOOLS + toolSection (the same source the landing CategoryCards use)
and runs under tsx.
Lands five integrated branches: pipeline templates (#355), analytics opt-out (#354), 83 conversion presets bringing the catalog to 240 tools (#356), self-hosted positioning (#353), and e2e modernization (#351).
Integration fixes: aligned stale web analytics tests with the opt-out/allow-list model, closed 3 CodeQL incomplete-sanitization alerts in the i18n generator, resolved settings/index/docs/format-matrix conflicts, and corrected tool counts to 240.
