artifact_count deliberately counts only renderable outputs (HTML + image/video/audio), so a run whose deliverable was PROMPTS.md or report.docx reported artifact_count: 0 and was indistinguishable from a pure chat turn in the artifact funnel. A 2026-08 sample of "artifact_count = 0" successful runs on 0.18–0.19 found ~1/3 had actually written such non-renderable files. files_written_count counts distinct files of ANY type the run created or modified. Primary source is the filesystem snapshot diff (the snapshot walk now stamps non-tracked files with a size+mtime-only fingerprint under a separate 5000-file cap, so code-heavy imported repos cannot starve artifact fingerprinting and no extra content hashing happens at run finish). When no baseline exists the tool-stream fallback (countWrittenFiles) and the truncation-proof side-effect ledger (writtenFilePaths) report it with the usual per-agent caveats. artifact_count semantics are unchanged.
