Neil Armstrong
Neil Alden Armstrong (1930–2012) was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who became the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969 as commander of Apollo 11. Before NASA selected him as an astronaut in 1962 he was a naval aviator and a test pilot who flew the X-15. He commanded Gemini 8 in 1966, performing the first docking of two spacecraft in orbit. He studied aeronautical engineering at Purdue University.
