- Expose birefnet-hr-matting in UI (People/Ultra) and fix model defaults
(People/Max now uses birefnet-matting for true alpha matting)
- Add output format selector (PNG/WebP/AVIF) with lossless alpha support
- Add edge smoothing post-processing (Off/Light/Medium/Strong) via
morphological mask refinement to reduce gray halo artifacts
- Add color decontamination to remove background color spill from
semi-transparent edge pixels
- Thread new settings through full stack: frontend -> API schema ->
Python sidecar -> Sharp effects pipeline
- Add i18n keys for all 21 locales
- Add unit tests for new option serialization (3 tests)
- Add integration tests for new settings validation (4 tests)
Convert all 9 AI tool routes (colorize, restore-photo, remove-background,
enhance-faces, blur-faces, red-eye-removal, erase-object, noise-removal,
upscale) to async 202 processing so none are vulnerable to proxy
connection timeouts.
Also fixes:
- Replace basename() with sanitizeFilename() in all AI tool routes
(prevents double-extension attacks and adds length truncation)
- Add UUID format validation for clientJobId field
- Fix missing filename sanitization in noise-removal (was using raw
user-supplied filename with zero sanitization)
- Remove em dash from error message in use-tool-processor
- Add Cloudflare Pages deployment for landing page (snapotter.com) and
docs (docs.snapotter.com)
- Create deploy-landing.yml and update deploy-docs.yml workflows
- Update CI to ignore apps/landing/** paths
- Fix logo transparency (remove white background) across all apps
- Recreate social-preview.png with SnapOtter branding
- Update all docs URLs from GitHub Pages to docs.snapotter.com
- Update VitePress config: light theme default, fix llms.txt paths
- Add .vitepress/cache/ and .env.* to gitignore
Extends the platform to handle 7 new image format families alongside
the existing AVIF support gap-fill. Uses the established HEIC decoder
pattern (CLI decode → PNG → Sharp) for formats Sharp can't handle
natively: Camera RAW via dcraw_emu/LibRaw, PSD/TGA/EXR/HDR via
ImageMagick. JXL and ICO are Sharp-native. Adds server-side preview
for non-browser-displayable formats and JXL as a new convert output
target. All 27 validateImageBuffer callers updated with filename for
extension-based format detection.
The guard was only present on restore-photo.ts and the createToolRoute
factory. All other AI tools used custom route handlers that bypassed
the check entirely, allowing requests to reach the Python sidecar even
when the feature bundle was not installed. This adds an early 501
response before any multipart parsing or file processing.
- Added model mismatch warnings in colorize, enhance-faces, and upscale routes.
- Improved error handling in colorize, enhance_faces, remove_bg, restore, and upscale scripts with detailed logging.
- Updated Dockerfile to align NCCL versions for compatibility.
- Introduced a new full tool audit script to test all tools for functionality and GPU usage.
- Created Playwright E2E tests for GPU-dependent tools to ensure proper functionality and performance.
Remove Background:
- Two-phase flow: AI removes bg once, then effects adjust instantly
- Blur background effect with real-time CSS preview (portrait mode)
- Drop shadow effect with opacity control
- Gradient backgrounds with presets, custom colors, and angle
- Custom background image upload (including HEIC/HEIF)
- Solid color backgrounds moved from Python to Node.js/Sharp
- Effects-only API endpoint for instant re-renders without AI re-run
- HEIC/HEIF input support (decoded before passing to Python/rembg)
- Passport/ID photo checkbox defaults ON for People subject
- Before/after slider preserved when no effects active
- 15 comprehensive Playwright e2e tests
Color Tools:
- Consolidated 4 tools (brightness-contrast, saturation, color-channels,
color-effects) into single "Adjust Colors" tool
- Added exposure, temperature, tint, hue, sharpness controls
- SVG filter-based live preview for all adjustments
- Backward-compatible URL redirects from old tool paths
Other fixes:
- Favicon tool: download button instead of auto-download
- Batch processing: HEIC filename extension fix
- File store: processedFilename field for proper batch downloads
- Replace OpenCV Haar Cascades with MediaPipe for face detection, using
short-range model first with full-range fallback for better accuracy
- Add auto-orient to remove-background route for EXIF-rotated photos
- Change default background removal model from u2net to birefnet-general-lite
- Fix flaky test by setting SQLite busy_timeout before journal_mode pragma

AI routes (remove-background, erase-object, ocr, blur-faces, upscale)
were silently swallowing errors - failures returned HTTP 422 to the
client but never appeared in server logs. This made it impossible for
self-hosters to diagnose issues like 504 timeouts from reverse proxies.
Adds request.log.info() at processing start (tool name, image size, key
settings) and request.log.error() in catch blocks, matching the existing
tool-factory pattern.

Register remove-background, upscale, and blur-faces in the pipeline
tool registry via registerToolProcessFn(). These tools keep their
custom HTTP routes (with progress callbacks) for direct use, but now
also provide a simple process function for pipeline/batch execution.
Add a search bar to the pipeline tool picker so users can quickly
find tools by name or description. Uses the existing SearchBar
component and the same filtering pattern as the main tool panel.
Update tests to reflect that these 3 AI tools are now pipeline-
compatible (moved from excluded to included assertions).
Remove docs/superpowers/, .claude/ config, and PRD.md from version
control (kept locally via .gitignore). Update README, CHANGELOG,
VitePress docs, and .env.example to reflect recent features: Files
page, teams, admin settings, persistent storage, and various API
improvements.
Extract clientJobId from multipart form data in all 5 AI route handlers
(remove-background, upscale, blur-faces, erase-object, ocr) and forward
progress callbacks to the SSE system via updateSingleFileProgress.
- Set up semantic-release with zero-touch CI pipeline on push to main
- Add version sync script to keep all package.json files and APP_VERSION
constant in sync automatically
- Consolidate Docker publishing into single tag-triggered workflow that
pushes to both Docker Hub and ghcr.io with semver tags
- Add help dialog with keyboard shortcuts, getting started guide, and
resource links
- Sync all versions to 0.2.1 to match Docker Hub latest
