A release-readiness QA pass over the whole product. The commits split into
defects a user would hit and gates that were reporting green while measuring
nothing.
## Fixes that change behaviour
Rate limiting was bypassable on every install: TRUST_PROXY defaulted to true, so
request.ip came from a client-set header and a forged X-Forwarded-For got past
the login limiter. The default is now a private-network trust list.
A transient Postgres outage stranded in-flight jobs, leaving finished output on
disk with no row pointing at it. A reconciler now resolves those rows and adopts
the bytes rather than dropping the work.
A Redis connection that moved to a new address wedged every read-blocked
consumer, so completions stopped signalling while health still answered 200.
Socket timeouts plus subscriber pings recover it.
Installing more than one AI bundle left the shared venv multi-versioned and
silently broke three tools. The installer now reconciles distributions to one
version each.
Converting an image to JXL at quality 1 through 4 returned a 500, because
libjxl 0.7 rejects the distance those values compute. The quality is floored at
what the encoder honours. A missing ffmpeg was also reported to the user as a
corrupt upload; it now says the engine is unavailable.
RAW uploads reached an unpatched LibRaw on arm64, so it is built from source at
0.22.2, and the release scan was split so it can fail on an unfixed critical
instead of hiding it behind ignore-unfixed.
## Gates that could not fail
Two mutation lanes ran zero mutants because Stryker crawled the gitignored docs
build; coverage discarded its whole report on any failing test; the lint gate
skipped root tests, scripts, and two workspaces; and several generated matrices
counted a host missing ffmpeg as a passing tool. Each now measures what it
claims.
Full evidence and the outstanding release items are tracked locally and are not
part of this branch.
Testimonial wall: new landing section between Feature Highlights and Pricing.
Two rows drifting in opposite directions, CSS-only to keep the zero-runtime
rule. 22 quotes, all verbatim and traceable to a public URL or a
feedback_submitted event. In-app quotes ship unattributed because the feedback
dialog only ever promised "You can contact me about this feedback". Marquee
traps documented in the CSS: a track gap also sits between the last original
and the first clone, so the -50% translate jumped half a gap per loop; and
under dir="rtl" the flex track drifted itself off-screen while "@amn-96"
bidi-reordered to "amn-96@".
Landing stats: DOCKER_FALLBACK read 104,000 against a real 233,057, but the
stale constant was the symptom. Both fetchers swallowed failures in a bare
catch, so a degraded build never announced itself. That warning then exposed
the real bug: getStarCount runs from Navbar and TrustSignals on all 798 pages,
firing ~800 unauthenticated GitHub calls per build and 403ing partway through,
so early pages carried the live count and later pages the fallback. Both
fetchers now memoize the promise.
Onboarding survey: the shipped gate has no activity condition, so it fires on
first admin login; 1,105 of 1,287 surveyed instances never processed a file.
The opaque fixed inset-0 aria-modal with a focus trap and no Escape becomes a
corner card at 12% of the screen, Escape closes, and the optional questions
stay collapsed until the one required answer. Its title was an h1, which
RouteAnnouncer focuses and announces on every route change, so navigating
anywhere announced the survey instead of the page. Now an h2.
Exports a pure buildRedirects() from generate-redirects.mjs and adds a unit test asserting the committed apps/landing/public/_redirects matches it, so tool additions can't silently leave the generated redirects stale (see #573).
Shared Claude Code translation pipeline (scripts/i18n, no API key) plus Astro/VitePress/Scalar i18n wiring. Landing and API reference translated into all 20 languages; docs i18n wiring + English source anchors. The translated docs markdown (apps/docs/<locale>/**, 3,620 files) follows in a companion PR because it exceeds GitHub's per-PR CI file limit.
Lands five integrated branches: pipeline templates (#355), analytics opt-out (#354), 83 conversion presets bringing the catalog to 240 tools (#356), self-hosted positioning (#353), and e2e modernization (#351).
Integration fixes: aligned stale web analytics tests with the opt-out/allow-list model, closed 3 CodeQL incomplete-sanitization alerts in the i18n generator, resolved settings/index/docs/format-matrix conflicts, and corrected tool counts to 240.
Fetch landing stars + image pulls at build time via a shared stats lib, refreshed by a daily cron + authenticated GITHUB_TOKEN. Image Pulls totals live Docker Hub pull_count + a maintained GHCR estimate (ghcr.io has no public pull-count API).
After #249 merged, main's CI is red on failures that predate this work (they
were cache-masked on the old branch). This applies only the missing fixes onto
current main (reverts nothing from #246/#248; saml/user-files are already fixed
on main):
- remove 8 dead landing unit tests importing @landing/app and @landing/components
React paths deleted in the Astro migration
- format tool-factory.ts and json-xml.ts to clear the api lint errors
- accept a 202 async fallback in the image-enhancement large-image test (it
exceeds the sync window on slower CI runners)
- relax the pipeline no-file assertion to match 'No image file provided' or
'No file provided'
- Apply biome formatting fixes to web app components
- Add required S3 credentials to loadEnv test when STORAGE_MODE=s3
- Update bento-grid test tool counts from 52 to 53 for html-to-image
- Separate unit tests (fast, no system deps) from integration test
shards to prevent vi.mock db leakage across test types
- Fix hero test: update expected subtitle to match current copy
- Fix FAQ test: add missing json-ld alias in vitest config and mock
- Integration tests run in 4 parallel shards (30min timeout each)
ai-canvas-expand was added to constants.ts and route files but never
added to the landing page bento grid, causing all hardcoded counts
to remain at 51. This updates all references across source, docs,
i18n, and tests to reflect the correct count of 52 tools.
Sentry fixes:
- Only send 5xx errors to Sentry (was sending 4xx rate-limit, media type errors)
- Encode non-ASCII chars in X-Output-Filename header (encodeURIComponent)
- Handle FK constraint failures gracefully in file upload, pipeline save, API keys
- Harden getDirSize against ENOENT race on readdirSync
Test fixes:
- Wrap navbar test renders in act() to flush async useEffect state updates
- Add useEffect cleanup to navbar to prevent state updates on unmounted component
- Fixes timeout when running in full test suite
GHCR packages default to private and require docker login. Switch the
primary quick-start command to Docker Hub (snapotter/snapotter) which
is publicly accessible. GHCR remains available as an alternative.
- Add Cloudflare Pages deployment for landing page (snapotter.com) and
docs (docs.snapotter.com)
- Create deploy-landing.yml and update deploy-docs.yml workflows
- Update CI to ignore apps/landing/** paths
- Fix logo transparency (remove white background) across all apps
- Recreate social-preview.png with SnapOtter branding
- Update all docs URLs from GitHub Pages to docs.snapotter.com
- Update VitePress config: light theme default, fix llms.txt paths
- Add .vitepress/cache/ and .env.* to gitignore
