bitsocialhq/pkc-react-hooks is a fork of plebbit-react-hooks that we're maintaining temporarily as an attempt to modernize the original repository using AI tools, possibly merging changes back into plebbit-react-hooks, which should also be rebranded to pkc-react-hooks eventually, under the org pkcprotocol.
Eliminate direct @plebbit/plebbit-js (8.7MB) imports from all UI components by replacing
Plebbit.getShortAddress() with a local get-short-address utility. Add Vite manual chunks for
plebbit-js, plebbit-react-hooks, and react-spring/use-gesture. Fix catalog CLS by matching
skeleton to wrapper dimensions. Lazy-load ChallengeModal and ReplyModal. Add failed-URL cache
to useFetchGifFirstFrame, optimize useHide selector, and memoize useFeed options in mod-queue.
Add static blotter snapshot, route /blotter, compact board blotter (Hide/Show All).
Include yarn blotter tooling and AGENTS rules so every changelog version has a
release line. 4chan-style table UI, subplebbit→board and plebchan→5chan in messages.
Split useReplies in post-desktop.tsx and post-mobile.tsx into preview/full modes so board cards avoid full REPLIES_PER_PAGE fetches by default. Added replies-preview-utils.ts and switched mobile backlinks to use precomputed directRepliesByParentCid map instead of per-reply useReplies.
Backend retention now keeps only recent posts, making the time filter UI
and newerThan filtering obsolete. Deleted use-time-filter hook, canonical
multiboard routes only, removed footer suggestions, dropped i18n keys.
Updated Android/Electron upload paths to fail deterministically and report consistent stage details, while removing unsafe stage casting and path/package mismatches. This keeps postimages automation behavior intact and makes failures easier to diagnose.
Add Random/Preferred/None modes, preferred provider selection, and provider-order fallback. Catbox/Imgur/PostImages on Android via WebView; Electron CDP automation for Imgur/PostImages. Hide upload controls on web runtime.
Added `useFileUpload()` and `uploadToCatbox()` to centralize upload behavior and remove duplicated upload code from `post-form.tsx` and `reply-modal.tsx`. The flow now routes Android to `FileUploader`, Electron to hidden-input + catbox upload, and web to a translated fallback alert with consistent upload UI state.
Set repliesPerPage to 500 to avoid Virtuoso pagination sort drift. Add useProgressiveRender with startTransition batching and CSS content-visibility for long reply lists.
Parse reply content for >>{postNumber} references, resolve post numbers to CIDs via usePostNumberStore, and include resolved CIDs in publishCommentOptions when publishing. Extracted quote handling into reply-quote-utils.ts for testability and clarity.
Backlink map generation now merges protocol-level quotedCids with parsed >>number references from reply content. Manual quotes are resolved through numberToCid from usePostNumberStore and deduplicated using Set. Centralized QUOTE_NUMBER_REGEX in url-utils to keep markdown conversion and backlink detection aligned.
Added bidirectional `usePostNumberStore` for post number ↔ CID mapping, populated from thread views. Preprocesses `>>{number}` into markdown links, renders them via `NumberQuoteLink` and `ReplyQuotePreview`, and deduplicates against `quotedCids` when both refer to the same post.
Removed all fake posts for subplebbit description and rules, including dedicated routes, components, and all related logic across the codebase. Board admins can now pin regular posts if they want to provide a description.
Keep Board/Catalog feeds mounted outside React Router's control to prevent
Virtuoso from remounting when navigating to/from post pages. The feed is
hidden via CSS when viewing posts and shown again when returning, eliminating
the visible flash/displacement that occurred during scroll restoration.
